Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator

There has been a lot of buzz recently about Microsoft's new top level certification for windows server 2008.

For many years the MCSE has been the premier certification that many it professionals aspire to. Now Microsoft have decided to change up their certification paths and the latest incarnation is the MCITP: Server Administrator:.

This certification deals with all aspects of managing and administrating a windows server 2008 network. Microsoft state that the main difference with this new MCITP certification is that it is a lot more job orientated than its predecessor the MCSE training.

To become MCITP: Server Administrator you need to pass four MCTS exams and then one MCITP exam. Once you have completed all five exams then you will be fully certified to work on all aspects of windows server 2008 as an enterprise administrator.

Who should get windows server 2008 enterprise administrator certification?

This is not a beginner certification. It is intended for it professionals who already have experience working with Microsoft Networks and are familiar with active directory. Most jobs that will specify this certification as a requirement will also ask for experience.

If you are new to IT then you should do the A+, Network+ certifications which lead on to the MCITP: Server Administrator. A server administrator certification also credits towards the enterprise administrator. So if at a later date you wanted to carry on to enterprise administrator certification it would be less study to do so.

They were various methods you could use to get certified. Books are available but not always the easiest to study from. Colleges will run courses that can cost several thousand to study.
