Wine Coolers
One appliance for the kitchen at the moment isnt strictly necessary but is being included in most designer kitchens - it is a wine cooler
. Now with the fantastic range available at www.mykitchenappliances.com you too can join the ranks of top class kitchen owners.
A common type of wine cooler is one that sits on the floor between the base units of the kitchen, and holds anywhere between 35 and 54 standard wine bottles. You can also find smaller versions. A very smallwine coolerwill hold 6 or 7 bottles, and a medium sized one willhold 12 to 15 bottles.
So why have a wine cooler? For many its just an extension of cool storage space. People keep their wine in there ready for drinking. White wine is best served at5-12 degrees C and red wine at about 15 degrees C. White wine is often kept in the fridge, of course, but the lower temperature (2 to 5 degrees C) is detrimental to enjoying the full flavour and aroma of the wine, and if red wine is kept at room temperature there can be loss of flavour and premature ageing. Fluctuations in temperature can also cause damage.
Smaller wine coolers will only have a single temperaturesetting but, once you get to larger and wider models, you will often have two separate temperature zones, so that you can keep your reds and whites separately. If you onlywant extra storage space for drinks in general and to free up space in the fridge and youre not a big wine drinker -then consider a beverage cooler instead.
If you are not just looking for temporarystorage and want to store wine long term. Perhaps you are even keeping wine as an investment, then you need to be a lot more careful when choosingyour wine cooler. There hasnt actuallybeen a lot of research, into the best way to keep wine for the long term, but one thing is certain wine keeps well in underground cellars. To be on the safe side then, you need a wine cooler that can reproduce the same type of environment. Cellars are: dark, cool (10-13 degrees C) with little temperature variation, free from vibration, free from strong odours (such as cooking smells)and have relatively high humidity.
If youre serious about storing wine, then you need to look for a wine cooler whichcan reproducesome or all of the same characteristics. Look for one that has three temperature zones: one for storing wine long term, one for keeping white wine at drinking temperature and one for red wineto drink(or you could have more than one wine cooler). The doors need to be solid, or to have UV resistant glass. You need vibration dampeners and humidity control high quality wines still use corks, which mustnt dry out, but you dont wantthem kept toodamp or youll get mould growing. You need very sensitive temperature control and, if youre going to keep your wine cooler in an outhouse, or garage, you need one that can heat as well as cool. If the wine cooler is in the kitchen, on the other hand, then look for one with an air filter.
