When fighting the battle of the fleas you need to do your research. These parasites are annoying nasty creatures that live on a host and bite to suck its blood. They are not just a nuisance with the itching whelps that they leave behind they are also possible carriers of diseases and other parasites such as tapeworms. Cats, dogs, even hamsters can carry the little beasts and as good pet parents it's up to us to make sure that they are parasite free. So how do we get rid of the biting brats?

If you are infested with fleas, and don't be ashamed it has nothing to do with the cleanliness of your home, then you need to treat the home and your various pets at the same time. It is also a good idea to treat your yard while you're at it. Even if you purchase the type of treatment for your pet that is supposed to keep the parasite free for a month you can actually bring them back into your home on your clothes if the yard is not treated. Start off by washing your pet. If there is more than one person in the household then it's a good idea to send one outside with something for the lawn while the other washes the pet. When you wash your pet either use special shampoo or Ivory soap. Believe it or not Ivory soap is a great way to start the killing process.

After you have bathed your pet, treat them. Use powder, spray, monthly treatment your choice, but you need to put something on your pet before they go back outside. At this point if you haven't treated the yard do so because for most home flea treatments the pets cannot be in the room. Once the yard is treated let them out and treat your home, foggers work great. Also be sure to wash any bedding your pet might lay on.

When you are dealing with fleas remember that for a bad infestation it might take multiple treatments so don't give up. Monthly treatments for your pet are a great place to start so they will be parasite free. Foggers, carpet powders and vacuuming even using a dehumidifier will help to control the problem indoors. Lawn sprays, powder and diatomaceous earth are a good way to treat the lawn. Be consistent in you methods and you will win the battle.
