Wireless Burgler Alarms: Benefits And Problems
The sky is clean and clear, the air outside is crisp
, the sunlight coming in through the windows is pure, and there's a breeze. An overnight storm has past now, and there she sits in front of me, her crystal blue eyes drifting from her keyboard to her screen, her eyelashes moving with them. Unknowingly her serenity, and even her very existence stands contrary to what could have easily been.
Several months prior, Ellen Frisk decided to start looking for protection. She began to loose her feeling of safety due to several incidents of theft, and one incident where one of the tenants in her building was sexually assaulted. The crime was persistent too, despite an increased police presence.
Since her complex wouldn't allow her to have a dog, that became a non-option. A dog large enough to defend her apartment probably would be cramped up in an apartment of that size, so it was probably for the best. Next she decided to find out more about alarm systems.
Wired and wireless burglar alarms were the two main choices. Both choices have a lot to offer. Technologically, they're both fairly similar in terms of their capabilities, but in the end what it really came down to was ease of installation. Her property management company wasn't exactly responsive, and she didn't think she'd be able to get them to help her run wires in her walls. Even though it would have probably been possible to just run the wires along her walls, she didn't like how that would impact the appearance. She decided to go with wireless burglar alarms.
The only other thing to consider now is which brand to get. Napco Security Systems, DSC Alarm Systems, and Ademco Lynx turned out to be some of the better choices. Each of them had some very useful functionality. Some of the features of some of DSC's offerings are quick-programming buttons, up to 17 personal access codes, and a home monitoring service. Ademco has a state of the art keypad system that allows you to keep in touch with the police if need-be, and also has a monitoring solution. False positives protection was Ellen's biggest worry though, so the Napco "IQ Profile" feature was what finally convinced her. Ellen owns a cat. Knowing the difference between her cat and an intruder made the alarm system a lot more attractive to her.
A couple of days ago Ellen had her mouth duct taped by an intruder that had broken in during the night. Her arms flailed about as she looked for anything to defend herself with. He grabbed for her arms, and she kicked a few times, enough to break her loose. She pulled off the tape, and ran. She heard her cat screech as the intruder tripped over him. He overpowered her, and the rest was a blur.
Fortunately none of it happened though. The reason is because before he ever got inside the apartment, I was watching over her and he new that. Watching over her furniture, her possessions, and even her cat, and now she sits in front of me on this beautiful morning quietly catching up on her email.
