Your local sheriffs department can help you get one going. Look at your home as a burglar would. Are there any hiding places close to windows? Is the home poorly lit and have lot a dark areas? Is a garage door constantly left open?
Police statistics show that 90 percent of all home burglaries can be prevented and that over 60 percent of all home burglaries occurred through unlocked doors and windows. So try locking doors and windows is the very first step. Use your peephole to positively identify who is knocking on your front door. Don't reflexively open the door when somebody knocks. That is how most home invasions start.
Have some self defense products around the house. Use door and window alarms. All of these things are either very cheap or free.

Be proactive and start sending a message to would be burglars that if they are dumb enough to target your home they will get caught. When are you getting one?
If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it home security. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!
