Wireless network adapter PCI cards are used for desktop computer systems while USB port also provides wireless connectivity.

Wireless Router plays similar role like that of a wired router to connect networked devices to other networks or to the Internet. DNS, DHCP, firewall and encryption, etc. are some of the common features of a wireless router. Wireless Access Point is more like a hub for wireless networks. It just transmits network traffic to the wireless devices like laptop, desktop, printer, etc. within its broadcast range.
