With Car Donation, Us Citizens Get Tax Benefit

US citizens can avail of the practice to donate no longer wanted automobiles and other vehicles to charity organizations

. These car donations can provide tax benefits to individuals and have therefore, become very popular. This change has begun from 2005 when the US internal Revenue service advised that the rules that determine the amount the donor can deduct for a charitable contribution of a moving and good conditioned vehicle was due to the result of a change in American Jobs Creation Act of 2004.

Car donation schemes in the UK are a little different from those that are operating in the US. UK charities e.g. Give a car is a non-profit organization. These charities operate as non-profit organizations and are allowed to avoid large overheads that are created by profit making car donating companies. Donating a car in the US can give you the added benefit of tax breaks while in the UK this is not allowed. Many of these donations are processed through auto auction companies. Others collect old cars and sell them to distribute money to a charity the donor has indicated. The company processing the donation then takes a percentage of the sale value of the car. The major portion of the funds raised is given to charity whether they have their own staff to run these donation programs or not. The best way is for donors to check how much money was made from the sale of the car and what percentage actually reaches the charity of their choice.

This seems to be a genuine way to dispose of an old car and give to charity via a donation at the same time.
