The Victor trap can only be used in the mole feeding tunnels since they are only 4 to 6 inches underground. Killing moles while they are eating is a good strategy because these food tunnels may be used frequently but it takes up to 7 days so see any results. Setting up Victor traps is a bit hard especially if you buy the out of site one, since it frequently tends to unspring itself. So if you want to get a kill within two days, the Victor mole trap is not the best way to go.
Fortunately for you there are TWO amazing mole traps on the market. They are:

With these traps, it's guaranteed one kill within 48 hours, if used correctly.
First, you would need to locate the most active area in the yard, preferably the main tunnel. If you see new mole activity with dirt mounds looking like mountains in your yard, it`s a sign of a mole extending its main tunnel. When moles are building their main tunnels you have a better chance of catching them since they spend lots of time on these vital runways.
Second, get one of these two traps whichever fits your budget more. The Trapline trap is only about $7-8 per unit so it`s definitely inexpensive for the damage that it does.
Setting up "The Mole Eliminator"
1. Take a stick and poke a hole in the tunnel to determine its depth, 4 to 4 inches deep is an ideal spot
2. Put your heel on the small hole you made and press it down, until it feels solid
3. Push both pairs of CLOSED jaws into the tunnel along its length
4. While inserting the trap, position the metal trigger so that is touches the hole that you made with your foot
5. Both jaws must be lined up with the center of the tunnel
6. Step directly down until trap is fully opened
7. Levers should be parallel to the ground (may be a bit off)
8. Step down to verify trap is solidly set and you are done
Setting up "The Trapline Mole Trap"
1. Spread out the front fangs of the trap in opposite directions
2. Unlock rear winder (where the spring is)
3. Take the trip pin and move it under the left front fang
4. Put the end of the trip pin in the inverted U shaped hook (located beside the spring)
5. Push down the trigger ridge and turn the spring 360 degrees clockwise until it is tight and then hook it up to the small handle at the end
6. Now your trap is trigger ready
7. Next open up a tunnel and place the trap directly inside, slowly holding the spring trigger and pressing its front fangs flush with the tunnels floor
8. Cover up the hole you made so no light passes through and you are done
Both of these traps will work great, for the Trapline trap its better if you buy two since then you can put them back to back so if a mole comes from either side of the tunnel you will catch it.
