Witness The Worlds Biggest Outdoor Museum In Thailands Ancient City Muang Boran
Pleasantly located on an 80 hectare expanse of land in the Samut Prakan province
near the Crocodile Farm lies the breathtaking ancient city of Muang Boran. Considered by many to be the globe's biggest outdoor museum, this scenic quarter of Bangkok houses a whopping 109 replicas of Thailand's most famous structures and monuments. Featuring mostly scaled down copies of the country's architectural and historic hotspots, the venue also displays life size replicas of well-known attractions.
Built in to resemble a Thai kingdom, Muang Boran's famed residents are strategically positioned in their proper geographic location. Constructed with the expertise of the National Museum, this historically exact site also features certain monuments that are no longer in existence. These include those that were destroyed during various tumultuous times in the country's political history and serve as the only remaining trace of those forever lost works of ancient times. Ideal for those with too few days to explore all of Thailand, Muang Boran is dubbed a "Thailand in a day" attraction as it encompasses all of the country's historic and architectural points of interest in one site.
Highlights include the replica of the Grand Palace of Ayutthaya which is no more in existence due to the 1767 invasion by Burma. Other must-see points such as Wat Khao Phra Viharn and Phimai Sanctuary located in the Nakhon Ratchasima are also part of the landscape which also features a spacious garden complete with lakes, bell towers, ponds and picnic areas. The Sanphet Prasat Palace is another exquisite palace on-site while the Prang Sam Yod and The Kam Yaad Palace Hall are also worth exploring. Although a majority of the attractions at Muang Boran are copies of actual sites, guests can also view various monuments and structures featured in Thai mythology or popular folk tales. This includes depictions from the Ramakien epic, the "Center of the Universe" and the hunter capturing the kinaree .The Royal Barge procession display and the Dusit Palace are also visible in this venue that is dotted with temples, salas, chedis and model rural villages where artisans producing paper umbrellas, ceramics and lacquer creations are a common sight.
