Woman successfully denies driving offences

A woman who was accused of driving offences has successfully cleared her name

, it has been revealed.

Guest house owner Sally Phelps was forced to deny being a Hell's Angel because her number plate contained the sequence "666", the Scottish Daily Record reports.

Two cyclists had accused her of motoring offences, saying she had driven her Volvo in a careless fashion.

Recently, she was up in court in the town of Portree, which is located on the Inner Hebridian island of Skye off the west coast of Scotland.

One of the bike users claimed she "felt the heat" of the black car as it went past.

Victoria MacLean and Fiona MacDonald were travelling on a single track road between Portee and their homes in Uig.

They suggested that the driver was guilty of motoring offences because she got too close as she overtook them, causing their bikes to wobble.

Questioning Ms Phelps, Fiscal Stewart Maciver said: "Are you a devil worshipper or a fan of the heavy metal group Iron Maiden, who brought out the song Number Of The Beast?" She replied: "No."

The 65-year-old, who runs a bed and breakfast, noted that her husband had purchased the license plate because it included the island's name.

She added: "I had no idea my car number had connections with the devil. When my husband bought it several years ago it was for the SKY part. The 666 bit came with it."

Ms Phelps' legal team argued that the cyclists had accused her of the driving offences because they disliked the number plate, rather than because they had a genuine grievance with the way in which she manoeuvred past them.

Recently, she was found not guilty in relation to the allegations and she walked free from court, thanking her lawyers as she did so.
