The concept of wood flooring is not that new but it has now caught the attention of many. The use of wood flooring adds a level of elegance and sophistication to the house. It is suitable to enhance the beauty of your home. With the increasing demand of hardwood flooring, it is now made available in variety of finishes, colors, wood species and widths. Further, it gives a chance to the people to select hardwood flooring as per their taste and preference and give a perfect look to their home.
Types of Wooden Flooring
Solid Wood Flooring This type of flooring is actually one piece of solid wood made available in unfinished or pre-finished styles. It is sensitive to moisture and cannot be installed either over a concrete slab or on floors below the ground level. Refinishing can be done time and again that adds to its aesthetic appeal and make it highly durable. While installing them, leave a proper expansion area because at times moisture may cause the wood floor to expand.
Engineered wood flooring This flooring is made using different wood piles, which are glued to each other. The centre core of the floor is a softer wood material and basically used for making the groove and tongue. A hardwood finish layer is attached to the centre cores top and a softer wood ply beneath the core is glued. They are basically apt for floating installation.
Veneer wood flooring - Veneer flooring is a real hardwood or thin piece approximately around 8mm thickness with 0.7mm top hardwood layer. Moreover, they are very easy to install and saves a lot of time.
Factory Pre-finished Wood Flooring This type of flooring has several finishing coats applied on the surface of the wood. It can be installed in just one day unlike the other hardwood floors. The finishes which are commonly applied are Acrylic-urethane, UV-cured, Polyurethane, Aluminium Oxide, Acrylic Impregnated etc.
Unfinished Wooden Flooring In this type of flooring, there is a bare hardwood floor and the floor is stained, sanded and properly finished at the place where it is to be installed. It is quite a cumbersome task and may take up several days to complete but will have a perfect finish to the floor that too as per your preference.
Species
Ash - It is available in colors from white to light brown and provided sometimes with irregular dark streaks.
Beech - It is available in colors ranging from whitish to plain brown and provided occasionally with a dark coloured core.
Birch - The color available ranges from light to dark reddish brown and is curly grained.
Iroko - It has a high visual appeal and the colour is made available from a pale yellow to dark- brown to a medium brown colour.
Kempas - It is made available in rich brick red colour but when it is exposed to the sunlight, it turns into red-brown.
Merbau - The color varies from yellowish to orange-brown and when exposed to light it turns into medium or dark-red brown colour.
Other species that are made available includes American Red Oak, American White Oak, Cherry, Hevea, Jatoba, Maple etc.
