The Garden furniture contains a table, four to six chairs, and an umbrella, also known as parasol. When used in open spaces, especially during summer, the umbrella is attached for protection from sun warmth. Parasols are attached with the table through an outlet, and fitted in a weighted base. The use of garden furniture was inherited by the British and Americans first, basically used for eating and drinking outdoors for a change.

Garden furniture is made of several materials such as Wrought Iron, Aluminium, Wood, Teak, Wicker, Fiber and Plastic. Sometimes we find furniture made of concrete and stone also, found in public/children parks.

Wooden Garden Furniture Wood used to be the most commonly used material in making garden furniture in past. Wood means a hard and strong tissue found in majority of plants which is fibrous in nature and very durable. It has a history of being extensively used for centuries in carpentry (furniture making) which includes chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets and so on. It is also used in making cricket and baseball bats, hockey sticks. Teakwood is a material which is commonly used in making garden furniture. Teak contains silica, an antidote to water effects (rotting, swelling and warping), fungal attack, and chemical effect. Teak is also a fire resistant. The teak wood furniture needs special oils to resist adverse effects of weather when we keep them outdoor for a long period.

Wooden Garden Furniture is expensive in comparison with other materials and they need a proper maintenance for long life. These days, people prefer furniture made of other materials such as plastic, resin, fiber and wicker due to the ever increasing cost of good quality wood and restrictions from public administration on the ground of green planet. Most widely used materials for garden furniture are plastic fiber and synthetic resin, which are cost effective, light weight (easy to carry), maintenance free and durable. Furniture made of resin is gaining popularity these days because resin is made of eco-friendly recycled plastic. These days the resin tables are popularly made from recycled plastic, which is solid in nature and can easily survive for many years. Resin is also resembled to look like a real wood or wicker.
