Woods unfazed by Mickelson threat to No 1 ranking
US Masters champion Mickelson can defeat the 14-times major winner if he succeeds at this week's Players Championship in Florida.
"I've experienced that before," Woods said in a news conference on Tuesday, referring to Vijay Singh and David Duval.
"Only if I win tournaments can I continue being world No 1, but, I haven't achieved that."
Woods, who recently went back to golf after a period of five months following his sex scandal, appeared subdued during his 21-minute appearance in front of the media.
The American discussed that it was a tough task for him to try to reform his image while in the public eye.
"A lot has happened. And I've had two different low states, one is what I'm going through and the other my father's death in 2006," he said.
"I'm trying to adjust my life. A lot of people, when they experience treatment, they can make these adjustments in an anonymous way; I'm not and that makes it a lot more difficult."
Woods also shrugged away a Sports Illustrated survey that revealed that 24 percent of his fellow pros on the PGA Tour suspect that he has used performance-enhancing substances in the past.
"I've never taken that, never taken HGH (human growth hormone), never, but everyone has his right to convey his opinion," he said.
