, versatile, resilient, and comfortable. Because of these characteristics, pure wool is unique in a way no other fabric is. If you want to learn more the benefits of wool cloth in addition to how to care for clothes made of wool, read on.

Wool is Great for Allergy Sufferers

There are countless allergy sufferers across the world and these people constantly look for products that fight against allergens. Wool fits the bill by protecting against dust mites, bacteria, mildew, and mold. In the case of dust mites, they need moisture to live and since wool quickly evaporates moisture, it is ideal for allergy patients to wear.

Regulating Temperatures

Natural wool is able to keep people warm in cold weather and cool in hot water. It has many air pockets surrounded by fibers. These pockets prevent moisture from coming in contact with anyone who is wearing wool and can repel said moisture to keep them comfortable and dry.

Instructions for Wool Maintenance

If you have various wool clothing in your closet, you need to know that the best way to keep it clean is by dry cleaning. However, if you are short on money or time and want to wash them at home, be advised that water can shrink your clothing.

The shrinking property of wool clothing may be negative but it is not the fault of the cloth itself. It is due to the way the cloth is manufactured. If the wool is twisted, it will shrink a great deal more than if it is woven. Despite the fact that companies try to combat shrinkage by using chemical treatments, it is still up to you to maintain them properly as the treatments are not 100% full proof.

So if you decide it is worth risking your wool clothes by hand washing, do not forget to read the label's entire instructions to see what percentage of wool your clothes are made of. If the percentage is less than 50, it is most likely your clothes will be okay. And always use cold water as opposed to warm or hot, both of which increase the risk of shrinkage and shape loss. If you are feeling brazen enough, you can always wash the wool clothing in a washing machine. Of course, check to see what the machine's wool settings are and follow them to the letter. When choosing the laundry detergent, mild is always better than strong.

Once you are ready to begin hand washing wool clothes, fill the basin you are working in with cool water. Add the laundry detergent and mix it in with the water. Put your wool clothing inside of the basin and let them sit there. After it sits for a few minutes, remove the clothing and squeeze the water out in a gentle fashion; you can also wrap it in a dry towel to help squeeze water. Finally, lay the clothing out flat on a dry surface.

Now that you have learned the best way to care for your wool clothes, you can save money and time spent at the dry cleaners. If you take heed to the instructions listed above, your wool clothing will last for many years.
