California Workers Comp has decided to go green, and they estimate they could save over a million pounds of paper this year alone by processing claims the new-fashioned electronic way. Work Comp now offers a Virtual Claims Kit which is a web-based service that promises to save a lot of paper. That makes tree-huggers as well as trees very pleased. Of course, saving paper also means the saving of money which may help offset costs. But saving paper by going electronic or virtual, also means that Work Comp has a chance to reduce the carbon footprint of the entire industry. Thats powerful stuff.

The savings of a million pounds of paper that Work Comp has assessed is based on the printing and mailing of all the claims currently in process or being reviewed. That doesnt even touch all the claims that have not yet been initiated.

Going green will see California Workers Comp offering all the documents, forms and collateral material that would ever be necessary in the case of a claim. Work Comp states that the electronic activity will go through a branded web portal on the clients website that will make all the documents appear to have come from the client directly.

California Workers Comp foresees this move to virtual kits as a win-win situation that will offer easy delivery of needed documentation in real time, and without the expense and waste of the old print and post system. The virtual kits will cover California Workers Comp as well as every other state in the country.

With most businesses today expressing an interest in going green (or at least being seen as going green) Work Comp sensed that the time was right to create this offering. Most of the relevant brochures, forms, documents, etc. had already been created in digital form, so California Workers Comp found it easy to repurpose.

California Workers Comp reminds us that it is not only paper that will be saved, but it is also the amount of energy used to produce so much paper that will be saved; this includes the generation and distribution of materials. It is the intention of Work Comp that the savings of each one of the factors pointed to above be significant.
