History tells us that we should be on the cutting edge of something new and exciting, but logic tells us that we need to stick with the tried and true. So which is it? Old and trustworthy or new and innovative?

Trying to time the launch of something that will take off like Nike, Home Depot and Apple is a somewhat risky move. If you put all your apples in one big basket, what happens when things don't go as planned? On the other hand, if you get lucky and time it just right, it could be a monumental success.

My advice is to do your research. Find out what trends are up and coming, which have peaked and are falling and then try to narrow the choices from there. But be warned, information on the internet can be manipulated so everything is not as it appears. Be careful where you get your work from home online information. Make sure they have no ulterior motives for supplying that information. Some people will alter data so they can push people into the areas they have a vested interest. This is not always the case, but it pays to take your time and look for the trusted sources for this information.

Even Google data can be manipulated by internet marketers so just be aware of this fact and cross check the data between sources to ensure you're getting the right information. I would suggest that you find an authority site that exists simply to compile and disseminate data and not a site that is covered up with ads that can make money for them.

Another thing to consider is this. Unless you want to get into a seasonal type business, try to choose products or services that sell all year long. There are three markets that sell like crazy at all times and they are: Health, Relationships and Making Money.

Don't be discouraged by the competition in these markets. There is plenty of business for everyone. In fact, competition in a market is a great way to determine if there is money to be made in those markets. If you want to compete with the big boys, find some internet marketing courses that will teach you to do that. In most cases, you can pick up a really good course for under $100. That's a very small price to pay to launch a business.

If you try to go where there's no competition, chances are great that there's no competition there because there's no business. Sure, you can pick some obscure product that no one is selling, but rest assured that if no one is selling it, it's because no one is buying it.

A little research goes a long way in launching your work from home online business. Don't try to skip this step or you'll waste a lot of time and money.
