Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a program run by the Government of Canada to provide service to the disable individuals

. Here the contributions can be made by the family and friends of disable person with an aim to secure the future of the person. Canadians with disability receive a lot of support through a program called Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). Somebody who is below 60 years of age can apply for this program.

The Government of Canada assists people to save their money with Disability Savings Grant and Canada Disability Savings Bond.

The program consists of Canada Disability Savings Grant and Canada Disability Savings Bond.


It provides security to people basically belonging to low income and moderate income.

The concept of this plan is quite similar to Registered Education Savings Plan.

One can make contributions till his lifetime up to a limit of $200,000 for the beneficiary for whom the plan is meant for.

The contributions one make are non-tax deductible.

The income generated on the principal amount due to earnings and growth is basically tax deferred.

Taxes are levied on the contributions only when you take the money out.

When you withdraw your money, the taxes are levied on a portion of the earnings and growth enjoyed.

Anyone can make contributions to this account of a beneficiary; it could be family, friends or any other well-wisher.

The contributions can be made till the time of beneficiary turning 59.

Canada Disability Savings Grant empowers government to deposit money into your RDS in order to extend support to you.

Under this scheme government may provide matching grants up to 300%, which depends upon the contributions made by your family and freedoms and the income of the beneficiary.

The maximum amount of support extended is $3,500 every year, provided the limit is $70,000 over ones lifetime.

Canada Disability Savings bond empowers Government to deposit money in the accounts of RDSPs belonging to people of low income group and even to the modest income group.

Aft qualifying for the bond, err may deposit up to $1,000 every year from the government. In this case the limit would be $20,000 over the lifetime.


In a recent change, one can carry forward the unused grant and bond for a 10 year period preceding the opening of the plan.

There is also an option of transferring the money from parents or grandparents RegisteredSavings Plan, Registered Retirement Income Fund and other accounts to RSDP of the disabled beneficiary.

Government of Canada has plans for people belonging to every section of the society. Disabled people are offered a great set of benefits from the Government, both Federal and National. These are such accounts, which allow any well-wisher, starting from parents to other family members and friends to deposit money into the account of the holder. The depositions grow appreciating. When the beneficiary needs the money he can take it out by paying nominal taxes, which is quite logical, if the facilities are looked into.
