Finding a catering company for your event is important

. You need to be sure that whomever you are hiring is going to provide the kind of service you expect; top notch food, quality customer service, a great spread and punctual staff. The worst experience with catering can really affect your entire event and that's why you want to make sure you've signed up with a reputable catering company.

The first thing you need to check is whether they have a license. A catering company cannot legally operate without a license, but some certainly will. Every state has a different license and different criteria for obtaining one. They have to go through the process of applying and being approved before they can legitimately operate as a catering business. Much of the approval depends on whether or not they hold a Board of Health permit in good standing, which means food prepared in an environment that is health and hazard free. There also needs to be an electrical inspection and safety approval by the local fire department. There's a lot that goes into it, so you know a company with a Catering Establishment License (CEL) had to get checked out in depth.

You also want to look for a company that's had some experience. That isn't to say a brand new caterer is going to give bad service and by all means, everyone has to start out somewhere. But, especially for your first event or two, you'll want to look into a company that has a few years under their belt. They know how to deal with certain kinds of events, how to prepare the kind of menu that will please your guests and know the ins and outs well through their experiences.

Of course, reviews and recommendations can go a long way. And with the Internet, there's so many ways to get information on a business. Review sites offer people an easy way of sounding out about different catering companies, both the good and bad. It's always good to utilize these tools to really get a good sense of an establishment before choosing them. You'll know right away whether they are someone you want to work with, based on what other people have experienced.

So take your time in finding the right catering company. At least you know that if you do end up having a bad experience, you can always try someone new for another event. But when you do find the perfect company, it's great to know you'll be able to stick with them for future great experiences.
