Working With Inventory Parts Management

One of the hardest things to do in any business is keep track of inventory parts

. This usually involves recording all the specific parts in one category on inventory parts management sheets, sometimes referred to inventory control sheets. These sheets keep an itemized record of every part that arrives or departs the parts department.

If a large corporation is involved storing the inventory often becomes more of a problem than keeping records. Often this requires storing similar parts, but they are for totally different brands. When this occurs, it sometimes become necessary to keep the parts separated and indexed using an inventory parts management system, either on paper, or in the computer.

In order to do this effectively, the parts are recorded and stored in various labeled bins by the inventory part management team. These bins are labeled by brand and part type. This method does keep it easier for most, but when parts are subtracted or added to the bin, it requires relocating the correct bin, although labeling makes it easier.

Currently, many inventory officers store by the maker's parts instead of storing like parts beside each other, which makes finding the correct part faster and simpler for the machine it belongs to. This is simpler for the inventory control officers as well, as they can locate the part immediately and alleviate the customers standing time in the area.

Most companies use a numbering system for parts they require identified by brand or replacement names. Because of this sometimes numbers are recorded wrong and create a nightmare for the inventory parts management people. All it takes is one digit to be out of place on the bin the part is located in and the customer will receive the wrong part in error. This one action could cause major damage to the customer's machine with the wrong part installed.

Many parts manufacturers today have done away with the old labeling system and gone to a bar code system which computer hand scanners can easily pick up. This has decreased the possibility that an error will occur when handling the parts. You could say, using this method, there is a lot less likelihood of human error.

The inventory parts management officers must always note the need for specific storage by various parts. If storing electrical, mechanical, or electronic parts, the temperature must be maintained at an acceptable level. The relative humidity must be controlled. For electronics, the static must be control or free of static shocks.

People, who understand detailed work, are efficient with quick recall, and who can handle people with the greatest of ease make the best people to work on the inventory parts management crew. This crew is very unique in their position, as one wrong or mistyped number could set in motion a whole range of nightmarish events.
