One of the jobs in medical industry is medical assistance. Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical duties in hospitals and clinics. They assist doctors and physicians during check-up sessions and laboratory examinations. Depending on the range of services of a medical center, they also manage and compile medical information ofpatients.

Medical assistance can be divided into three categories: clinical, administrative, and specialized assistance. Clinical medical assistants help physicians conduct medical examinations to patients. They prepare specimen for laboratory tests, disinfect medical instruments, and dispose used tools in clinical tests. They also perform basic nursing tasks like measuring blood pressure, changing dressings, and administering medications.

On the other hand, administrative medical assistants carry out management duties in clinics and health centers. They serve as the counterpart of medical records and information technicians of big state hospitals. They are in charge of organizing medical histories of patients for easy reference of doctors and physicians. Some clinics utilize practice management software in organizing medical information for security and accessibility. In addition, administrative medical assistants do secretarial works such as answering phone calls, scheduling physician appointments, and handling billing.

Moreover, specialized medical assistants have workloads which are related to a doctor's specific healthcare service. For instance, ophthalmic medical assistants help in check-ups and clinicaltests of ophthalmologists. They assist in providing eye care services to patients. Frequently, ophthalmic medical assistants help in measuring and recording eye vision capacity, conduct diagnostic tests, and examine eye muscle function. They also organize medical information using manual compilation system or practice management software.

Like other professions in the medical industry, medical assistants undergo intensive training and education in order to acquire the job post. Basically, entry-level medical assistants take vocational training in technical schools. Some obtain an associate degree from a one-year or two-year program, with courses on physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology. They are also taught the basic uses and functions of practice management software.
