Working out while sick - The common question

So your laying in your bed and your eyes slowly begin to open, you sit up and soon realize that you feel like complete crap. Your nose starts to run, you feel like your on fire then you start to cough, Some of you dedicated bodybuilders might start to think should i workout today ?
This is a question that i get asked quite frequently, Which to me seems like a kind of common sense question. Working out while sick is not something you should be doing, if your sick you should be laying in your bed getting plenty of fluids, foods, Antibiotics whatever makes you better but definitely not working out.
If you have a very intense workout or endurance session where you use 85 percent of your maximum effort for 30 minutes or more, It can weaken the function of your immune system while also damaging or destroying some of your white blood cells. White bloods cells are what help your immune system by fending off both infectious disease and foreign materials. With a weakened immune system you will not recover from your sickness as fast or might not recover at all, or might actually catch another illness which could be even worse that the one you already have.
When trying to work out while sick your strength and motivation will be considerably low, you wont be able to put up as many reps as you normally do or might not even be able to put up some of the weight you usually do, Its more than likely you wont even finish your workout which would be a waist of your time for even starting in the first place because you could of just been relaxing and getting better.
Another negative about working out while sick is that you use a lot of different machines, if you go to a gym to work out think about how many different machines you touch sit on, sweat on, and since your sick probably cough and maybe even sneeze on. That is pretty gross and very inconsiderate, Think about all the people that touch those same machines you do, They have a very high probability of contracting your sickness from touching those machines and spreading it from whatever machine you were touching to another machine they are going to use.
The best thing to do while sick or not feeling well is to just take a break, Instead of working out while sick just take a week off until you feel better, After that short break you will probably feel a lot stronger and have more motivation to complete your workouts.About the Author:
