Landforms are unique structures that are formed as a result of natural activity occurring over a decade

. A specific landform is created as a result of natural activities like action of wind, water, ice or natural forces. The most spectacular landforms that you see today are due to the deposition, erosion and tectonic activities that occur in the earths crust. Types of World landforms

Various amazing structures that you see today are a result of natural forces and movement of tectonic plates. It is due to this movement that the activities of erosion and deposition occur which lead to the creation of a landform. There are different types of structures of which some of them are created as a result of a few hours while others take billions of years for getting into shape.

List of Landforms

Different types of landforms are characterized by rock, soil, orientation, elevation, stratification and slope. There is a description of some of the most common landforms formed over the years.

Mountains

Mountains are created as a result of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. They possess a specific characteristic of high peaks and are most commonly located in the oceans than land.

Oceans

This landform is a creation that formed as a result of continental drift and movement of tectonic plates. Oceans were formed after several years of drifting and movements.

Deltas

Deltas are formed as a result of water flowing at a high pressure carrying rock particles and sand. These particles are collected in a particular triangular shape. These are generally found in the river openings and represent a low lying area.

Hills

Most of the people often get confused with hills and mountains. The only difference lies in the size and elevation of the two. Hills are smaller in size with sloping sides whereas mountains have high peaks with steep elevations. Hills are formed as an activity of water action over the years.

Sand Dunes

Sand dunes, commonly known by the name of sand hills are created by the regular activity of water and wind. It can also be seen as a result of Aeolian process which involves the mechanical and chemical action of wind. The dunes are formed in different shapes like a crescent shaped, star shaped, dome shaped etc.

Plateaus

The tectonic collisions of earths crust result in the uplifts of the earths crust due to which flat areas call plateaus come into existence. These landforms are separated from their surrounding areas.

Volcanic landforms

As the name suggests, these landforms are created as a result of volcanic eruptions. Volcanoes have an opening an aperture of their mouth. The lava and other materials emitted from a volcano, cools down to various shapes that are termed as volcanic landforms.
