World Of Warcraft The Path To Selecting A Guide

In recent years video games have become complex

, diverse, vast, sometimes confusing and way more time consuming than ever before! How do we know this is true?

1) I've been there and spent (or wasted) countless hours of my life playing them. And reading guides of some form or another to improve how I play.

2) Game designers spend equally countless hours of their lives just to create the content, and then bring all of that content together into the game(s), for the consumer to play.

That second point is interesting because when game developers create a game, they create it with the idea of having not just replay value (which is playing through the game a second or third time) but longer-lasting first time play-through value and depth. Games like starcraft 2, for instance, are designed to be just beyond the human capability. For instance, you needs to multi-task constantly on a few different things at a time: where you build, when to build a building next (macro), what army you want, how you can switch armies, scouting, map control, expanding, and controlling units (micro). Most people would give up instead of taking the plunge to learning to adapt to all that, or just decide to play it their way regardless.

Right, so games are complicated because designers make them that way.

Now take World of Warcraft. You have a character that has 85 levels to get through, a profession and talent path to select, kitting out your character with appropriate gear, pets and mounts. But you also have hundred upon hundred of missions to go through, hundreds of areas to search. Hence it's called WORLD of warcraft. (and thats before looking at the arena and that side of things)

And again for many, and I suppose all of us at some stage didn't fully comprehend the depth of this game until we had played it for a good few hours into it. This could have put some off, as mentioned before.

But again looking at the designers, they put together a game that is teeming with content and variety. So much so that the best thing to do to grasp the gravity of it all would be to copy their memories into yours to understand every single thing about World of Warcraft.

Many people have picked things up very quickly with World of Warcraft and want to share what they have learned. This has been done by assembling guides of all sorts from video guides, free online guide, guide books, and in-game guide add-ons.

The intention of these is to focus your thinking on one task at a time, to achieve a specific goal, like: complete this quest, travel to location x, or obtain this gear etc... some of such guides are focused on just earning you in game gold at a speedy rate.

So how can you decide which is the one you are looking for? Well many things come into the picture, your time, your finances, you preferences and your determination.

As a rule of thumb the free online guides are well free. But think about it, that's for a reason. They are made by one person trying to understand the game on his own, against hundreds of game developers who have produced the game collectively. So you are only getting his, that one person's, experience of playing.

Books are an excellent source of info and book guides can be the same. However, because World of Warcraft changes so frequently, these tend to go out of date.

Now think about developed guides made by a team of veteran or expert players, and/or some of the game designers input in there as well. This would be the best guide information to have. An interactive guide that never goes out of date.

Rather than focus on just one type of guide, that ultimately may not be to everyones liking, just think about the last few points we've mentioned. When it comes to you choosing your guide, you may want to try something free to begin with. But then when you discover their limitations you start to think about using a paid guide. Many of these sport a free trial period of one month or two. You will notice a huge difference.

You may be a new comer into World of warcraft or someone who is very well established in it. But don't be afraid to try out these guides, and see which ones can help you achieve your goals.
