My account was recently hacked and I have verified 100% that I have no trojans, malware, spyware -- I run a very, very tight network and my machines are kept immaculate. My e-mail address and password are used for World of Warcraft only -- and quite frankly, I am baffled as to how they accessed my account.

As you read this, keep in mind that people will only continue to hack accounts as long as there is a value proposition in it. Players can take measures to prevent their individual accounts from being hacked but only Blizzard can reduce the profitability of a hacked account.

BAN FOREIGN I.P. ADDRESSES

I'm sort of curious as to why Blizzard hasn't taken the liberty to ban foreign I.P. addresses from the North American realms and European realms. I could be wrong here, but I'm guessing most account hacking is not North American based (US & Canada have tight laws against this and a hacker wouldn't last very long).

Or if Blizzard isn't interested in banning all "problem-countries" why don't they at least make an option inside the account area where you can choose to automatically have your account frozen (requiring the password recovery) in the event someone with a foreign I.P. address tries to access your account. You could even go one step further and since most Internet Service Providers operate inside the scope of certain I.P. ranges have smart tracking on accounts and in the event an account is accessed from an unusual I.P. range it forces the password recovery.

My personal WAN I.P. address is always going to fall into a certain range. e.g. (64.141.29.72 or 64.141.32.234) -- if someone suddenly tries to access my account from a 112.124.x.x obviously something is very wrong. That should automatically freeze my account and force a password recovery option. I mean, really... how many people access their account from Chicago one day and suddenly China the next.

GOLD SPAMMING

Why not automatically ban certain pieces of text, namely domain names for common gold resellers? For example, do not allow anyone to post a message that contains the phrase "susanexpress" given that this is probably one of the worst spammers out there. Having these Chinese hackers forced to buy a new domain name every few hours due to a fast auto-updating black-list of key words would do two things:

1) Get very costly for them

2) You would run out of relevant domain names incredibly quickly; there are only so many variations of (e.g.) us-battle.net available.

I don't post on forums very often -- in fact, I think this is my first time in 4-5 years playing WoW. I would appreciate both the communities feedback and I would certainly like Blizzard to address why these "basic" security practices haven't been implemented. I understand it is just a video game but at the same time, you (Blizzard) have the power to protect your majority, dedicated customer base and just are not taking some of the necessary steps.
