The Toyotas car named TERCEL was the Toyota's first car

, which ad a front wheel drive, and it had some relation with its more sophisticated, and those cars, which had a rear wheel drive. Being good in quality and affordable, TERCEL was sold in U.S. 2 years after being introduced in Asia and it retained its place in the United States for more than 10 years as the base model.

The 2 door deluxe had its rear windows in the form of flip open quarters. It also gained a steering wheel covered with a leather cover and also a shifter knob in the early 1980s.The air conditioning was also an optional feature, but not in those base models. The demisters for the side windows were standard, similar to the seat belt retractors which were used for locking so as to hold the car seats in their position.
