Would You Insure Your Handbag?

It seems like there's cover for everything these days

. Whether it's for your car, your house or even your holiday, you can guarantee that someone, somewhere will try to sell you insurance for it.

According to an article in The Daily Mail, handbags are next in line for the hungry insurance sales person eager to make a sale.

According to the article, more than one in ten women have spent over 500 on a handbag, meaning that if it gets stolen or goes missing you are looking at an expensive loss. So if you fancy following in Carrie Bradshaw's shoes (no pun intended) and splashing out on a fabulously expensive handbag, should you look at getting insurance cover for it? After all, if you're spending a small fortune on a handbag, in all likelihood the contents will be worth a fair bit too.

So should you splash the cash on extra insurance? In all honesty, probably not. Most home contents policies will have the option of insuring possessions outside of the home, so this way your handbag will be insured as well as the other valuable items that travel with you. Car insurers also offer deals that will cover your handbag in the event of theft, meaning that any extra handbag policy you take out might well be unnecessary.

It's worth checking the small print on any other policies you might have as chances are, you can probably cover your handbag for much cheaper by including it in an existing policy. If you are considering getting insurance cover for your handbag there are plenty of companies who will happily take your money, but maybe it's worth saving your cash for your next big shopping trip instead.

On the whole if you stay safe and don't leave your bag unattended it is unlikely to come to any harm, so think carefully before making what could be an expensive decision.
