, you should try to find the source of the leak. If it is from a natural disaster the flood damage needs to be blotted up with towels or blankets. If the source of the water is from a broken pipe or leak from within your home, find the source and shut the water supply off as quickly as you can. If you have wet area rugs you should remove them to outside. Do not, however, try to lift and dry wall to wall carpet because it can shrink and ruin the carpet even if your restoration company can save the water damaged carpet. Never try to vacuum wet carpet because you could be electrocuted. You should turn off the electricity to the area if you can do it safely. Do not enter rooms with sagging ceilings, the weight of the water and the sheetrock is heavy and it could fall on you. Leave dangerous tasks to the professionals!
