Would Your Marriage Survive a $54,000 Dinner Like The One Dez Bryant Paid For?
Dez Bryant is one of the first year players (a rookie) on the Dallas Cowboys who
agreed to pick up the tab for dinner the other night for some of his teammates. Mr. Bryant was guilty of refusing to carry one of the veteran's football pads during the pre-season game and thus agreed to pick up the tab since he violated an unspoken rule in the NFL.
I wonder if Dez Bryant is married what kind of explaining he had to do when he got home. I know I would be in the dog house if I blew $54,000 on dinner unless it was a wedding reception for me and my wife.
So, how would your marriage do if you agreed to such a promise and forked over $54,000 like Dez Bryant did?
Would You Tell Your Wife?
Many husbands would probably hope their wife didn't find out about it. They would just walk around on eggshells hoping their wife doesn't open up the credit card bill or notice the large decrease in the savings account.
It doesn't have to be a $54,000 bill like Dez Bryant had. On a smaller scale it's probably best to just fess up and let your wife know when you have made a bone head mistake. Trust me, it will turn out worse when she finds out, and she will. In Dez Bryant's case it was all over the sporting shows and internet.
Would Your Wife Forgive You?
I'm sure with the amount of money Dez Bryant signed for as a top draft choice he could afford the $54,000 dinner. However, I wonder would his wife forgive him or hold it over his head for years to come?
How long do you think it would take your wife to forgive you for pulling a Dez Bryant? Would you be sleeping on the couch for a week, month or year?
If your relationship is on solid ground then I'm sure your wife would forgive you. You may find it necessary to buy her something extra special because she cut you some slack but the great thing about having a strong relationship is that you feel safe confiding in each other.
The Dez Bryant expenditure probably seems extreme to the average working man or woman. However, the amount of money is really not the issue but rather what kind of relationship he might have with his wife. On a more personal level how would you and your spouse handle a large sum of money wasted due to silly tradition?
