Writing Compelling Articles For Your Marketing Campaign - Part 1 of 5
Trying to get people to read what you have written can be frustrating at times
. Periodically, you can get disappointing results, no matter how much effort you put in at the keyboard. Not fair, right? No, I don't think so either.
The fewer eyes that you have reading your work translates to fewer people coming to your web page and buying your products. The secret here is to create an action plan that is easily replicated and put it into play - again and again. If you have a proven model for success, the easier it is to get the outcome that you want quickly. Let's look at a few strategies.
1. Create lists to form the framework of your material. What did I do right here? I did exactly what I am recommending that you do. People want something that they can read quickly and easily. They understand the value of time. A college textbook is not what your readers want. They want the information presented in a manner that is easily culled to get what they want. They want a "convenience store" of information. Time to move on.
2. Put your articles in different categories on EzineArticles or other article directories to see where they have the most draw. If you get 6 hits in 2 days on a work, you have to move it around. A different home will draw different readers. Try a general heading rather than something that is specific. You might get more hits with "Automotive" than with "Automotive - Alternative Fuels."
3. Identify what keywords are attracting the most hits on the search engines, Google and Yahoo for example, by using the tools that they provide to keep track of this. If your product is one that will increase your gas mileage, think like the consumer. He is more likely to search for "ways to increase gas mileage" than he is for the name of a specific product, "Super Turbo Mileage Blaster 2000," for example.
4. Read, read, read materials in your area of expertise. Your homework will pay dividends by providing you with fresh ideas constantly to create new marketing pieces. Also, keep track of what is appearing in the newspapers and on the television. Chances are good that readers will want to know more information about things that they are interested in. A word of advice here: If you are going to follow current events, write articles on topics that will not take a PhD to comprehend. You are casting a wide net. Get as many fish as you can.
Writing compelling pieces does not have to be a monster task. It just takes time to get the formula right, figure out where the articles need to be, and choose the right keywords to get your work noticed. After this is done, you can almost create fill in the blank templates to get you new articles in the pipeline. Shoot for about 500-600 words each time. Anyone can create pieces of this length on topics that they are interested in.
Look at this "helpful hints" piece. I have two, short introductory paragraphs at the beginning followed by a list of four bullets, concluded with two more short paragraphs to wrap it up. This was done easily, quickly and was effective. You are reading it, right?
