It hardly seems possible, but your time at music production school is coming to an end

. Youve almost completed the entire curriculum, from intro to DJ training to the fine art of negotiating contracts in the biz. You have a business plan ready and waiting for that day when you have the funds to get your own studio up and running. But youre going to need to find a job before you can afford to do that. And to find a job, youre going to need the best resume possible. Here are some tips.

Music Production School Resume Tip #1: Choose your font wisely

The font on your resume is not the place to showcase your creativity. Thats what your music production school portfolio is for! So nothing fancy. Plain old Arial or Times Roman will do.

The body of your resume should be written in a 10-point font. You can put headings, such as the name of your music production school, in a slightly larger 12- or 14-point font, if desired.

Make it easier for recruiters and potential employers to read your resume. Use a black font on a white background, period. No experimenting.

But, what, exactly, is the most important information? For an entry-level applicant, recruiters and prospective employers will be most interested in your education, i.e., a description of your diploma or certificate from music production school, as well as any relevant experience, e.g., an internship position or part-time job in the field. If your experience is particularly strong, then put it at the very top of your resume, followed by your education.

Does your school have a job placement service? Make an appointment with a counselor to go over your resume before your graduate from music production school. If you are on good terms with your teachers, you may want to solicit their opinions as well. And, if you do have an internship, you may want to ask your higher-ups there to take a look at your resume. It can also be useful to have friends and family read your resume to scan for typos and other errors.

Employers dont need to know whether you are married, whether or not you have children Keep personal information off your resume. Save that information for the lunchroom when you finally do land your first job after music production school.
