Wrong Windows 7 Beta expiration date by Microsoft
Microsoft is sending out emails to users who have downloaded the Windows 7 Beta from the official download site
. The emails contain information about the expiration date of the Windows 7 Beta and links to downloads of the release candidate. It's July 1 and not June 1. For those of you still using the Microsoft Windows 7 beta, you might well be thinking it expires on Monday.
A mistake by Microsoft sent some users into a panic when they received an e-mail that told them their copies of Windows 7 beta would automatically begin rebooting every two hours starting June 1.The remaining part of the email contains information about the Windows 7 release candidate including download links but also the that a clean install is desired. Users who would prefer to update from beta to release candidate directly might want to check out our Windows Beta To RC Upgrade Instructions.
Microsoft said, "
We said the Beta would start shutting down every two hours on June 1, 2009. The correct date is July 1, 2009. We apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused." The company is apologizing for a slight slip they actually meant July 1. The beta will expire completely on August 1, and all beta copies will become "not genuine."
If you are running Windows 7 Beta you'll need to back up your data and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.Windows 7 RC, unveiled earlier this month to the public, has a June 1, 2010 expiration date, with the every-two-hour auto-shutdowns starting March 1, 2010.
