WHILE THE question on everyone's lips after Joe McElderry won the music reality show
X Factor has been whether his first single would be the Christmas number one single, Killing in the Name by Rage against the Machine has made this highly unlikely. The hard rock band's expletive laden offering has edged past Joe McElderry song Climb in total sales.
Betting on which of the two would be the Christmas number one track has even been suspended, as bookies state that Rage Against the Machine has become the favourie, with a lead of 600,000 sales by Wednesday, December 16. 98 per cent of the bets were on the Rage Against the Machine single, placing just two per cent votes on Joe McElderry.
If the betting for the Christmas number one track had not been suspended and the Rage Against the Machine track had topped the charts on Sunday, bookies would have had to shell out six figure amounts.
However, not all is lost for the X Factor winner Joe McElderry track. Till now, the single is only available as a download and the situation may change when the CD is launched. A lot of people are expected to purchase the Joe McElderry CD as a Christmas gift.
