With the holiday season rapidly approaching, some of you may be wondering what Xbox 360 games will be worth your time and money to invest in

. There are so many new games around this time of year, it can often be hard to separate the gems from the junk. So here are some games that have proven themselves worthy of being played.

Gears of War 3 - The third entry in the Gears video game series, Gears of War 3 doesn't disappoint with its fast paced third-person combat and stunning visuals. It's definitely one of the better looking Xbox 360 games, especially if your setup supports a High Definition television. The story revolves around the last of humanity, struggling for survival against a genocidal race of beings from beneath the surface, bent on humanities total extinction.

Sonic Generations - Geared towards the younger crowd, Sonic Generations is the newest game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. While past 3D Sonic games have been known for being terrible and often a waste of time, this new game is actually quite fun and will last a good six to twelve hours depending on how experienced you are. The game switches between 3D action packed levels, and 2D platforming maps. In the end, the objective is usually to reach the end of a level as fast as you possibly can. This game won't be for everyone, but if you grew up playing these classic games, this one is definitely recommended.

Modern Warfare 3 - The third game in the famous 'Modern Warfare' franchise. This game is sure not to disappoint if you're a die hard first-person shooter fan. Modern Warfare 3 improves on its predecessor with new guns to try, a story that builds on top of the previous game, and hours of fun with Xbox Lives online multiplayer feature. Be sure to give this one a try, it's definitely an Xbox 360 game at its finest.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - This is the game for the people who enjoy being immersed in a lifelike fantasy world, filled with dragons and numerous other monsters to fight to the death with. This game is worth every cent of your money, as it will take months upon months to actually complete. Filled with fun side quests and an interesting main story, you will be busy building up your characters stats and weaponry as you take on this newest entry in the Elder Scrolls series. This is a popular choice for many Xbox 360 owners.

Batman: Arkham City - Continuing where Batman: Arkham Asylum left off, Arkham City is an amazing game for any long time fan of Batman. This game improves upon Arkham Asylum with a much larger explorable area, more classic villains to fight against, and challenging puzzles to solve before you can advance. The games scenery is dark and haunting, and you never know what will be lurking around the next corner.
