The red ring of death is basically due to a hardware failure where the graphics processor becomes loose which is basically fitted on the motherboard

. The processor generates heat and cause the motherboard to heat up. When the green light turns into three red lights and if you don't fix it, it will eventually freeze your Xbox 360.

Fixing red ring of death is not at all a cumbersome task. The red ring of death seems to be the highlighted problem when it comes to Xbox 360; almost all its devices seem to be associated with it. 1) Disassemble the Xbox 360

2) How to safely remove the motherboard

4) Heat sink unscrewing

After exploring the area and doing as prescribed above, unscrew the heat sink to get the GPU and the CPU. Make sure you don't do such steps with rapid speed as it may cause to damage your Xbox and make it much worse than its present state.

5) Cleaning of the CPU and GPU

Once the above procedure is followed, next will be the cleaning of the CPU and GPU. Use some alcohol and gently wipe off the compound on the top of the GPU and CPU. This step should be done with caution and if done correctly, it will stop the console from freezing up. It is an important step and should be followed obediently.

6) Applying Arctic Silver

After which you then apply the compound material (arctic silver) over the GPU and CPU. Let it settle down for around 20 minutes and then place nylon washers around the 2 of them. Next, place back the screws which are on the heat sink and twirl back the screws which are originally on the motherboard. Do not forget to add two of the nylon washers on those screws as well.

Lastly, get the heat sink to be placed on top of the screws, push them down slightly and then get the final screws to be placed in. Make sure it is as tight as it can stay strong holding the fan and the CPU in place. Once cross checked on the fittings your Xbox is ready to use once again.
