Xmas Ideas - How To Scrapbook Placemats

Make your Xmas table extra special this year by making personalized scrapbooked placemats for your table. Here is how.It is probably a good idea to use a normal 12 x 12 page layout for this idea. Design the layout of your placemats on a rough piece of 12 x 12 paper. It is a good idea to use the same design for all of your placemats. Each one will be unique, but with the same underlying design to match them all up together.A good idea here would be to trace the side of a plate on the one side of your layout and use the other side for your feature photographs. In this way your finished design will have a half circle covering the one side of your placemat which you could decorate any way you liked and your photo/s on the other side. You could either keep your color scheme the same or do different color schemes, depending on your personal taste. Mine all show some part of Christmas past, but are all different. If using the above layout idea, first choose your background page. Next cut out your semi circle from a contrasting patterned paper. Stick this onto your layout on the left side with the flat side of the circle up against the left side of the page. Next, place and adhere your photograph or photos onto the right side of the circle. If your background is busy, it may be a good idea to matt your photo's before adhering them to the background. Now for the fun part. Use your imagination to embellish your placemat in any way you like. I would stay away from bulky embellishments on a placemat, or your food will wobble about while you are trying to eat it. Try using stickers, string, ribbon, strips of paper up the right side of the page, photo corners, tags, paper lettering or anything that won't make your layout bulky.I generally used the semi circle for my heading and journaling on most of my placemats. If the photograph brought back some memories, I did a bit more journaling at the bottom of the photo. Once my layouts were finished, I cut out 12 x 12 blocks of felt and stuck the material underneath the placemat. If you want to stiffen the placemat you could also use a thick piece of cardboard, but I didn't feel this was necessary. Now all you need to do is take your layouts to a print and copy shop and ask them to laminate them in a reasonably hard wearing plastic. With your set of stunning and personal placemats, you will be a hit with your guests this year.
