Xperia X8 May Signify Sony Ericsson's Revival

Sony Ericsson is one of the most popular brand names when it comes to high end smartphones. They were one of the original pioneers in the area of touch screen phones, even before the likes of Apple's iPhone. However, the past few years has seen only an occasional model in their portfolio that has performed exceptionally well in the market. That could all change though, with the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. This is Sony Ericsson's answer to the leading touch screen smartphones from the likes of Nokia and other big players in the world of mobile phones.

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 boasts an interesting array of features that will surely generate a massive interest in the minds of those looking for a new phone. This handset is a Quad-band GSM phone that will offer serious competition to the likes of the Nokia C7 and similar handsets. One of the first things you notice about the Xperia X8 is its 3 inch capacitive TFT touch screen. This screen can display images sharply and with a lot of detail too, thanks to the HVGA resolution and support for 16 million colours. A scratch resistant screen coating is given to prevent the screen from losing its beauty with time.

There is a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera that can also do video recording. It can record videos at 30 frames per second in VGA resolution, which means that this is actually a viable feature and not just a gimmicky afterthought like some video cameras. Geotagging feature is an added feature that comes with the camera.

The phone has 128 MB of onboard storage capacity. Even though this is a rather meagre amount for most entertainment boffins it can be boosted to a more than adequate 16GB using microSD cards. Also, you do not need to rush out and buy a memory card straight away as the phone already comes with a 2 GB card included as part of the sales package. The Android Operating System v1.6 is used for this phone and it is made complete with a custom Sony Ericsson UI that features Timescape amongst its arsenal. Wi-Fi connectivity is standard on this phone and this enables you to connect to any free or paid hotspots that are becoming more and more common these days. A built-in GPS receiver and digital compass are standard on this phone and this means that you can enjoy the best of navigation using any of your favourite navigation application.

A microUSB port is present for connecting the phone to the computer and you can also charge the phone using this method. A standard 3.5 mm audio jack is present, although the phone can also offer excellent audio using its own loudspeakers. Then, there is the FM radio with RDS support for listening to your favourite radio stations in your area. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 includes social networking integration for connecting easily with your Facebook and Twitter friends. You can also get your Facebook feed updates right on to the phone itself. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 will be launched in the UK sometime in the Q3 of this year. The Xperia X8 is available in five different colours to choose from depending on the individuals taste.
