"YTSBM SATURDAY- THE DHAMAKA DAY"
The MMS first year students had arranged an extracurricular activity named "YTSBM Saturday - The Dhamaka Day" on 9th Oct, 2010 under the guidance of Dr. Chadaram Satyanarayana, Director, Yadavrao Tasgaonkar School Of Business Management, Karjat. On this occasion, Prof. Amol Deshmukh, Prof. Yogesh kambari and Prof. Shankar Kolambe were present to motivate the students. These faculties guided the students and convinced about the importance of extra skill sets. On that day, the institute had conducted several other activities. During the first session students came up presentations. The topic was "PURA" which means Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas" by our former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. After the presentations, Prof. Amol Deshmukh elaborated in brief about the "PURA". Along with this some motivational video clips were also shown to the students. Role play was organized on different themes on Management practices.
In the second session, a Group Discussion activity was arranged. In this session, Prof. Amol Deshmukh and Prof. Yogesh Kambri were the judges of the event. In each group there were 8 members.
The topics given to the group were:
"Are we serious about wildlife?",
"Why India is lagging behind China?"
"Social networking sites versus Sports"
The students discussed about their opinion on these topics. There was a brainstorming session. The discussion went on for 2 hours. After the end of the discussion, the judges highlighted about strong and weak points of the discussion also guided on how to improve their communication skills. There was a great response from the students.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:
Extracurricular activities: are activities performed by students that fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education. Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education, from 4th-6th, junior high/high school, college and university education. Such activities are generally voluntary as opposed to mandatory, non-paying, social, philanthropic as opposed to scholastic, and involve others of the same age. Students often organize and direct these activities under faculty sponsorship, although student-led initiatives, such as independent newspapers, are common the extra curriculum made its first appearance in American colleges in the nineteenth century. It complemented the curriculum as much as subverted it. The students found in it a kind of laboratory for practical and vocational interests. The first extracurricular activities were student literary societies (which had roots in the previous century at Harvard and Yale), debate clubs, and by mid-century, Greek letter fraternities and sororities. Students also initiated and organized the early athletic programs on American college campuses. Literary societies were on the decline by the turn of the twentieth century, and some educators felt that less desirable extracurricular activities were now distracting students from their curricular responsibilities. Intercollegiate athletics soon became the dominant element in the extra curriculum in most American colleges and high schools. Such activities as school newspaper and interschool sports programs have been part of American high schools since the World War I era. Today's public high schools offer a comprehensive array of extracurricular activities to complement the curriculum. Extracurricular activities should not be confused with co-curricular activities such as band and choir. Co-curricular activities do have some aspects that are outside the normal school day but are mainly curricular activities that happen during normal class time. Companies seeking job applicants may not look solely for those with a high GPA; employers might also look at extracurricular activities to determine if the applicant is the best suited for the job.
Benefits of Extracurricular Activities: You get to explore your physical, creative, social, political, and career interests with like-minded people. You'll find friends: Trying something different may bring you in contact with people you didn't know who share your interests and curiosity.You can get involved with groups as a way to get support from other students with your background, such as Latino or Jewish clubs. A club or group also can be a great way to meet people who are different from you. Lots of youth programs bring people together with those who are different as a way to break down the barriers between people. Mark, a senior who lives in Washington, DC, discovered this when he volunteered for a group that uses baseball as a way to bring special-education kids and kids with disabilities together with regular kids. Participating in extracurricular activities helps you in other ways, too: It looks good on college and job applications and shows admissions officers and employers you're well-rounded and responsible. Specific activities help with specific goals if you want to teach language or get a bilingual job, being the president of the Spanish club shows the depth of your commitment. The most basic reason for joining a club or team is that it gives you something better to do than staring at the wall, wandering the hall, or napping all afternoon. People who are involved and engaged are less likely to become addicted to bad habits, like smoking or drinking.
