Yao Ming is a Chinese born basketball player who currently plays for the Rockets of Houston. The object of the game is to hurl or otherwise convert the round leather skinned ball into a basket which is suspended from a hoop. But who is Yao Ming? Yet he has suffered an injury recently and his basketball career may be over.

Mr. Yao Mng was born on September 12, 1980 and is a pro basketball player who as I said, plays for the Rockets of Houston in the NBA (National Basketball Association). He is right now the tallest player in the NBA, towering above all other NBA players at 7 ft 6 in. Now that's tall!! That's like daddy long legs tall!!

Yao Ming was actually born in city of Shanghai, and started his basketball career by playing for the Shanghai Sharks as a teenager. Rawwwwr!! Yao Ming played on their senior team (not senior league) for five years in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA, not to be confused with the Chippewa Bowling Association). Yao Ming won a championship with the Shanghai Sharks in his final year.

Yao Ming ("Yowza", to his friends and family) was selected by the Houston Rockets as the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. Since that fateful moment, Yao Ming has since been selected to start for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game in each of his first seven seasons, and has been named to the All-NBA Team five times. Take that, Phil Jackson! However, the Rockets of Houston have advanced past the first round of the playoffs only once since Yao Ming joined the team, and he has missed significant time due to injury in each of the past five seasons, which brings us to the here and now.

Yao Ming has been diagnosed recently with a stress fracture in his left ankle that is expected to keep him off the basketball court for the rest of the season and maybe forever, though at least one player (Matt Dempsey) has recovered from the same injury within six weeks. Yao Ming had played only five games this season, after missing all last year's games with a broken foot. Will Yao Ming return to dominate the basketball arts again? The world holds its collective breath.
