There was a time in my life when I thought the only way to ever get healed of anything was to "go to the doctor and submit myself to whatever treatment" they saw fit to dole out. But, if I told you that there is an easy yeast infection home remedy that you could use with ingredients you get from the grocery store, would that ease your anxiety a bit? And the best part is, that these ingredients are all natural and won't tear your immune system down while getting you well.

What is a yeast infection and what causes it? Candida is the scientific name for yeast and it's a fungus that lives almost everywhere, including in your body. It's a fungal organism that's present in everyone's intestinal tract. A normal healthy immune system keeps yeast under control by beneficial intestinal bacteria. If you're immune system is weak and you've been sick, stressed out or taking antibiotics, it can multiply and cause an infection.

Yeast infections affect different parts of your body in different ways. If you have white patches in your mouth you may have a yeast infection called "thrush." This can spread to your esophagus, (the tube that takes food from your mouth to your stomach.) That can make it hard and painful to swallow.

For the typical itching and discharge, the best yeast infection home remedy women have used, is vitamin C tablets (ascorbic acid, 250 mg), used twice-daily as a vaginal insert. Also Acidophilus, found in yogurt, is also a very helpful natural medicine against infections. My favorite recommendation is: Combine the two, (unsweetened plain yogurt WITHOUT sugar) and the Vitamin C, (in powder or crystal form is best.) Mix them together and gently apply to your vaginal area, two to three times a day. Add yogurt and Vitamin C to your daily diet as well and it will help speed the process of healing.

For most people, an antifungal medicine will eliminate a yeast infection, but if you have a weakened immune system, treatment with this, might be more difficult.

Avoid certain foods and it will help improve your health in this area. Remove foods that contain yeast in them, like: Beer, wine, and all other forms of alcohol, breads, rolls, pretzels, pastries, cookies, and sweet rolls.
