People have been making and eating yogurt for at least 5400 years

In yogurt, fermented sour milk of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus has many benefits. These bacteria make the milk sugar (lactose) into lactic acid. This lactic acid causes sour taste of yogurt. The fermentation process causes reduced levels of lactose in yogurt; therefore, yogurt can be consumed by people allergic to milk and the elderly.

In terms of nutrition, yogurt with the milk does not differ greatly.
