Their newest record is Forget the Night Ahead, a collection of vague and emotional songs that singer James Graham said was influenced by his depression and terrible experiences in the past year. Northern Portrait Following up two exceptional EPs last year, Northern Portraits have released their full length Criminal Art Lovers at last and it is the most undeniably Smiths influenced record on this list. The complex, jangly guitar parts and the plaintive, wobbly vocals are all there in the new album with the band almost sounding like they are trying to do their best impression of The Smiths. Nonetheless, they do have their own sound as seen on tracks like Crazy which was a highlight on the bands earlier EP.
