You Have Huge Knife So Now What?
If you're like me you like knives, and find them to be useful tools
, and in the right situation a deadly weapon that can save your life.
There was a time when every free man carried a knife, but as society changed people carried them less, and laws restrict what you can carry. Seems nobody told the criminals that they couldn't use them to murder and rob people, but as usual your safety is up to you, but unless you're trained all you're carrying around is a liability. Sure there styles of knife fighting, but if you want to wield a blade you should learn how to fight first. You're the weapon the weapons are simply tools that help you win faster.
While firearms are heavily restricted even in the United States just about anyone can get their hands on a knife, but what you do with it is entirely up to you, and you don't need a combat knife to be deadly. While some think this is simply marketing a good student understands that you need to learn the fundamentals first before you can go on to the more advanced lessons. Most of our self defense techniques are relatively simple, but some are easier to do than others.
The techniques learned in module one are the bases for the quick kill techniques in module twelve. If you know how to take out an attacker with your bare hands the same basic movements will work with a blade in your hand.
Despite all of the martial arts and combat knowledge out there in the world few people know how to use a knife. While styles like Eskrima greatly utilize the knife along with the sword and stick fighting your training doesn't need to be too complicated. First you don't need to have the biggest knife to be deadly, so forget about those huge fancy looking mass produced piece of crap.
Not only are they gaudy, but they aren't made very well, and aren't likely to hold up under the stress of combat. Find a good knife with a simple design, so that you can integrate it with yourself defense training.
Now that you have a good knife make it part of training, but don't waste time with all the flashy moves where the blade goes all over before it goes into your opponent. If you need to pull a knife attack and don't neglect the rest of your body in the fight.
Hack into your attacker with edge of hands, kneels, and elbows, and when you're close enough stab them and keep stabbing until they no longer pose a threat. When it was created it was based partly on the experiences of World War II commands, and while doing research we found few actual knife fights, but there were soldiers who used their knife to win a close combat fights, and they were able to do so because they had training. So, pick your knife carefully and make it part of your training, and remember just having a knife isn't self defense.
