Exercise is a must. Your doctor will tell you which forms of exercise are best suited for your condition. For example, stretching regularly helps to keep the muscles and joints flexible.
At least once a week go for a walk. Walking increases bone density and strength. Because it is a low-impact exercise, it will not hurt your joints. Furthermore, it's a great way of burning calories.
Swimming is wonderful. All water exercises are great because buoyancy makes the body weightless. As such, there is no pressure on the joints. Walk, swim and run while you are in the water. This will improve mobility and increase strength.
Exercise should be fun, no matter what it is. It could be bowling, walking, gardening or swimming. But it must be something that you like doing. Exercising with other people is a good idea. Social exercise is wonderful for the body, mind and soul.
Your daily diet should be supplemented with calcium and Vitamin C. A glass of milk and an orange make an ideal snack. Not only do oranges contain a large amount of Vitamin C but they also have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants can retard the progression of arthritis. Milk has a high content of calcium that increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.
Your day should start with a healthy breakfast. It should include milk, fruit, fiber, and water or juice. A nourishing breakfast will give you sufficient energy and stamina to see the day through. Relax in a hot bath before you go to bed. The warm water will ease all joints and muscles.
Music and humor are also excellent for pain management. Sit back and listen to some inspiring music, or rent a comical movie. Scientific studies have proved that laughter is definitely the best medicine. It releases the body's own painkillers and significantly reduces stress levels.
If you live by yourself, make contact with the nearest Center for Independent Living. Most countries have similar organizations, although they may have other names. You can usually find contact details in the telephone directory under 'Disability Services'. A representative from the center can tell you about various devices for installation in the home.
If you are taking medication for joint pain and arthritis, be sure to stick to your doctor's instructions. If you take the medicine as prescribed, the pain will be better controlled. Another option is to attend a pain clinic. These are staffed by professionals who can help you manage pain effectively.
