Young Internet Crossover Stars On Satellite Tv

Always working to top last weeks episode is tough for some of the top programs on television

. However, the writers and creators of Glee seem to be making it look easy. A favorite show across cable and satellite TV ratings, the program has also created scores of Billboard hits based on albums and digital copies of tracks sold. Many of the performers on the show, however, came from more humble beginnings. More than a few can be seen in old audition tapes, in bit parts on 80s and 90s television programs, and on reality casting program type shows. For example, one of the shows sassy cheerleaders Santana, is played by Naya Rivera. Recently YouTube footage of Rivera acting on shows like Family Matters as a small child have been posted, and have been receiving plenty of hits. The same is true of footage of her partner in crime on the show Brittany played by Heather Morris, who can be seen back-up dancing for Beyonce, and auditioning for the smash show So You Think You Can Dance. Everybody has seen the photos of young Lea Michele circulating on the internet during her turn in Les Miserables, and the brief boy-band fame of wheelchair bound Artie on the show with his former group NLT. It would seem that these actors werent waiting around for fame to find them, but putting themselves out there for years. The most recent actors and guest stars from the younger generation to grace the program, however, are direct sensations from the internet. This kind of jump from the computer screen to the small screen gives a new kind of meaning to the term crossover star.

When watching satellite TV its expected that the caliber of acting and programming be higher than the average, run of the mill, cable show. In fact, the country and world have become somewhat obsessed with seeking out new talent to most adequately fill those shoes. With singing, dancing and acting competitions galore, it seems that the only way to get famous these days and succeed in the performing arts is by churning through one of these avenues. However, as the American Idol reject Amber Riley who now stars on Glee will tell you, those judges can still overlook top talent. Living in a day or age where anyone with a video camera and computer can see their face in high definition within a few minutes of uploading, it would seem, however, that many young talented performers have found a way around jumping through all the old hoops.

Take for example recent addition to the cast of Glee Darren Criss. At just 23 he has already been an internet sensation for years as the creator and star of the Harry Potter Musical. In addition to his stage acting, he has also posted numerous videos of himself as a singer songwriter. Now, hes signed on with the hit satellite TV show to be a series regular as the lead of a rival high schools club. In fact, his cover of the Katy Perry hit Teenage Dream has become one of the best selling singles of the entire show, which is saying something. Another new addition to the programs cast, Charise, who is from the Philippines, became famous for her powerhouse voice when her online videos caught the attention of viewers in the music industry. Will these roles on the program mean long successful careers for such performers, or merely a quick addition to their 15 minutes of internet fame? Only time will tell!
