A resume doesn't get you a job. However a professional resume plus a good cover letter can get you an interview for a job. A good resume tells the employer that you are a competent adult who is serious about a job and no to mention it shows that you know how to organize facts.

Here are some general guidelines for making a resume:

Clear, brief to the point. It should be no more than one page long.

Honest. The resume should contain only the truth. There should be no false statements.

No personal biographical information. Do not include material status or number of children, your birthday, photographs or irrelevant hobbies.

Only related special skills. Do not include special talents like dacing, cooking or tennis unless they are related to the job you are applying for. Do include information about language fluency, volunteer work, etc.

Grammar, punctuation and typing ERROR FREE. Remember that employers will examine your resumes to see how accurate you are with information and how important it is to you to produce correct, high quality work.

Check list for writting a resume;

Keep it short and simple.

Limit to one page if possible

Capitalize section headings

Avoid writing in paragraphs

Keep sentences short, preferably under 12 words

Stress accomplishments

Proofread errors

Choose white, ivory or gray paper

Do not list names of personal references on the resume

Double space between sections.

Neat and easy to read

Single space within sections

Keep one-inch margins on all sides
