Your Colour, Your Style!
Different paint colours evoke different feelings and atmospheres in a house
. Colour adds a very important aspect to your house and sets the tone for any space. With the myriad paint colours out there, it could get confusing to decide which ones to choose for your home painting needs. However, things can be made clearer by explaining the types of moods different colours set in a home. Once we understand that, we can decide what colours best suit us and what moods we want to create for various areas in the house when we are home painting. For example, you might want to create one type of mood in your living room and another type of mood in your kitchen or bedroom.
Generally, lighter colour paints make a space look bigger and darker colour paints make a space look smaller. However, lets get into more specific details. Reds and oranges are considered warm colours and blues and greens are considered cool colours. This gives you an idea of what type of feeling you want to create in a space, when you are house painting. Paints like blues, light pastel shades, subtle purples and pinks create a relaxing, impersonal and peaceful atmosphere. Conversely, paints like reds, oranges and browns create a vibrant, warm and exciting feeling.
When you decide to paint your bedroom, you can choose cooler and more impersonal shades of blue and lighter pastel shades. When you paint your dining room, you can choose warmer colours like oranges and reds to add a little more life to the space. When painting your living room, you can go either way to create the right atmosphere. If you have a bright living room, with a lot of windows and enough sunlight entering it, you can choose darker reds, greens and browns to counterbalance this. However, if your living room is not so bright and has fewer windows, you can use lighter colours to make it look brighter. After all, your living room is what almost everyone who enters your house will see, so you want to create the perfect home design for that space. When you are wall painting your kitchen, you can choose lighter colours if you have a small kitchen and want it to appear larger and brighter. On the other hand, you can choose darker paints if you have a large kitchen and want to create a warmer and cosier feeling. Also, most people choose to paint their ceilings white, because it makes the ceilings appear higher and gives a good contrast to the paints on the walls.
There are a number of paint companies that will offer you a range of colours to choose from. Most paint companies will show you a colour chart or a colour wheel so you can understand the warmer and cooler colour concept. You will also see hundreds of different shades to choose from. You have to decide how to paint a room in your house and you have to choose the colours that best suit you. Remember your colour, your style!
