It is good to list down everything you want in this home, including the number the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, whether you would like to have a library, a guest room or, perhaps, a home theater. If he shows you photographs of different properties, visiting these properties personally is ideal. This step is quite obvious. Many of the homes for sale only have front elevation photos. Some don't have a single photo. Then there is Photoshop. There are many software available today that can edit photos to remove those unappealing features and only show those that are appealing. Thus, when you visit these properties yourself, you will be able to tell whether what you see in the picture is true or not.

Hiring a real estate agent who focuses on a specific market area is ideal if you plan to buy a house on a specific area. This is because an agent who specializes in a specific area can be able to provide you a detailed information not only about the home but about the entire area including demographics, crime reports and others. The ownership costs is something that you should also look into. Don't just limit yourself to mortgage and utilities.

Make sure that you include all other expenses related to the investment like taxes, insurance, maintenance and repair costs. Don't be conservative, size these up. This will enable you to make an estimate of the home's affordability level.
