Your Eczema Lotion Can Soothe Your Inflammation

To soothe the severe itching of eczema an eczema lotion works well

. There will be special ingredients in the lotion that will help with or stop the itching associated with an eczema rash. It will also help with the inflammation and redness. In some cases the rash will clear completely.

Eczema is a skin disorder that is chronic and recurring. It occurs primarily in early childhood. It is not curable but can be treated to improve or eliminate symptoms. Those symptoms are redness, itching, flaking and dryness. The skin can become tough and thick if it is frequently scratched. It isn't contagious and there is more than one type. Some types include symptoms of blistering and oozing from the rash.

One type of eczema is Contact dermatitis. When the skin comes in contact with an irritant, a rash develops. Those irritants may be from chemicals, alcohol, pollen, foods, smoke or synthetic fabric. A very common type is Atopic dermatitis which first occurs before the age of five. This type is genetic and occurs along with asthma and the hay fever allergy.

Dyshidrotic dermatitis cause blisters limited to the hands and soles of the feet. It occurs mostly with women. Nummular dermatitis happens during winter months when humidity is low. It can show up anywhere on the body in round, dry patches that do not itch. They may last weeks or months. Seborrheic dermatitis occurs as a rash that is itchy, red and scaly. Stasis dermatitis happens mostly among the middle aged and elderly. It affects the legs when there is poor blood circulation. It shows as areas of redness that itch. These can progress to blisters and weeping.

Your doctor may prescribe a topical steroid or an oral steroid when you have periods of flare ups. These will help prevent and reduce eczema symptoms. There also some non steroid gels, creams and ointments. Depending on what type of eczema you have it may be antibiotic, antibacterial, anti inflammatory or anti fungal. The anti fungal cream would be for when the rash gets a secondary infection.

There are some things you can do to lessen irritation and possibly avoid flare ups. Wear clothing that is loose and breathable. Natural cotton is best. Always use gloves when handling cleaners and detergents. When bathing avoid harsh soaps. Some foods are natural irritants like garlic, onions, and citrus fruits. The same can be said for some flowers. Avoid environmental irritants like smoke when possible.

To care for your skin how you bathe and moisturize it is very important. When having a bath or shower be sure not to scrub your skin. The water should be warm, never hot. Hot water can dry skin further. Use a mild cleanser instead of soap. Choose one that does not contain any fragrances or dyes as they can irritate your skin. Once out of the shower pat the skin dry, do not rub it. While it is still damp put on a moisturizer to keep your skin moist. If you have been prescribed a topical treatment put it on before the moisturizer.

An eczema lotion, cream or ointment may be prescribed by your doctor or you may use one of the over the counter products. All of these can help in treating the eczema. The lotion will be the lightest formula absorbing quickly without leaving it feeling greasy.
