Your Endeavor Must Be A Part Of You
Your Endeavor Must be A Part of You
Your Endeavor Must be A Part of You
The real key to winning in your endeavor is that your endeavor MUST be a part of you. In other words you must have a real passion for whatever it is that you choose as your profession. Then its not just what you do. It becomes what you are. Theres nothing wrong with being passionate about your job. Passion will give you that extra oomph which will propel you over the top when others fail. When you are so tired that you cant put one foot in front of the other this passion will cause you to push. If what you are doing is not all important to you then you will not push past your physical stopping point.
Military special operations forces will use this principle to weed out candidates who are not really passionate about being a part of special operations. The first thing that we did on day one of paratrooper school was to attend a class called Break area procedures. It sounded easy but it was a period of super intense physical exercise. The session continued until some of the trainees quit. The purpose was to get rid of those who were really not interested in becoming paratroopers and it worked well. The French Foreign Legion will put prospective legionnaires through an intense march through the desert with no visible means of rescue or relief. The trainee has to march if he wants to survive. This shows the trainee that he can in fact supersede what he thought were his physical limits.
These same techniques are used in every special operations school in every branch of service and they work. Once you realize that you can do much more than what you previously thought you lose the fear of pushing yourself past your limits. After a period of time you will get into the habit of pushing yourself farther and farther.
The point that I am making here is that this psychology applies to you doing anything that you love to do. When it becomes a passion rather than a job you will easily do more.
When I look back at some of my major failures (there have been many) I find that I only really failed in those things that my heart was not in. Now that doesnt mean that I led the way in everything else. I didnt in all things but I can say that I was close to the top of my class in every single event that I was passionate about.
Passion fueled my drive to excel. I felt that I had a real chance to succeed and I wanted it. You have got to want it. You have got to taste it. When you have some success doing what you love to do it only drives you to want to become more successful. There were times that I experienced defeat when I knew that I could have won. This only fueled my passion to do better the next time. This is the same passion which drives professional athletes past their prime to continue to try to win.
Wanting to win is what spurs you to put that next foot forward regardless of the pain that you know will come.
Pick something that you are passionate about and you WILL win.
