Your Guide To Makeup: How To Make Collections Work For You

A make collection can either be a pain or a blessing

. If you're not sure which makeup works best for you, you'll want to build a collection that includes several things you know always make you look good.

Not sure where to start with your make collection? Here are a few key points to get you started and help you build a makeup collection you'll want to come back to again and again.

Finding the perfect foundation will be the first step in your make collection. Get a feel for your skin's individual undertones by seeing what colors look best against your skin.

If brown, red or soft orange tones look good on you, you have warm undertones. If blue, white, and most primary colors are better, your undertones are in the cool spectrum. Knowing this will help you more easily find a foundation.

Try a few you think match your skin tone best on the back of your wrist. The one that seems to disappear into your skin is best. Once that's done, choose a bronzer or cheek color that best compliments your skin tone.

For eyes, choose a color that best suits your eye color. This is where a make collection can be tailored just to you as an individual.

For blues, the best color is something in the brown spectrum like terra cotta or cinnamon.

For greens, choose a soft lilac or a deep chocolate brown.

Browns and hazels do best with autumn colors like deep greens, golds, and even soft pinks.

Your make collection should also include an eye pencil and mascara. Those with green and blue eyes benefit best from brown pencil and mascara as black can be too harsh.

Finish off your make collection with a lip color that works with the eye look you've chosen. If you favor a bold eye look, it's best to choose a lipstick or gloss that's just a little on the soft side. Look for pale pinks, peaches, and nude tones or barely-there, natural-looking berries or reds.

Conversely, if you prefer a soft eye look, you can get away with more color where your lip look is concerned. Soft taupe shadows can pair well with bold reds and even the heaviest of dark lipstick colors. Whatever you choose, make sure both areas of your face are well balanced with the other.
